Brazilian Honey Export
Coffee Export. From January to August 2020, the total Brazilian coffee exported was 26.4 million bags, being the second largest volume shipped for the period in the last five years. The foreign exchange revenue generated by exports in this period was US $ 3.4 billion. Differentiated coffees (which are coffees that have superior quality or some type of sustainable practices certificate), represented 16.8% of the total volume of coffee exported from January to August this year. The foreign exchange revenue generated with the export of differentiated coffees from Brazil was US $ 721.1 million, representing 21.4% of the total generated with vessels from Brazil. According to Nelson Carvalhaes, president of the Council of Coffee Exporters in Brazil (Cecafé), Brazil had "a very good semester, with great efficiency, good results and within the amount of coffee that could be shipped to the international market".
Among the varieties shipped in the calendar year, robusta coffee stands out for its 12.9% increase in exports, when compared to the volume of the variety exported from January to August 2019. This variety of coffee corresponded in the period to 11.6% of the total exports (equivalent to 3 million bags shipped), while arabica coffee represented 78.3% of shipments (20.6 million bags) and soluble coffee, 10.1% (2.7 million bags).
In relation to the current pandemic situation, “the (Brazilian coffee) export was slightly lower due to the coffee supply”, concluded the president of Cecafé, who evaluated that the pandemic did not significantly affect demand, although it greater care was required, from harvest to export. But he said he believed that, in view of a large harvest that is being harvested in this year of high Arabica, the country should have massive shipments, especially from August and September, when the product of the new harvest will be ready for shipment. In addition, due to the exchange rate and the better domestic supply, domestic market prices are more attractive to importers. It is a favorable sign for exports.
